چکیده

Laboratory feeding trials were conducted to assess the comparative impact of registered and new unregistered insecticide-treated bran baits on nontarget epigcal arthropods. Yellow mealworm beetles and larvae (Tcllebrio molitor, L.) (8 surrogate, surface-dwelling tenebrionid) were individually housed in containers and exposed to five different dosages (quantities) of bran bait treated with three different insecticides. Response to the baits (mortality in beetles and moribundity in larvae) was greatest in the chlorpyrifos bait tr'eatment, and progressively lower in the dimethoate and carbaryl treatments. Mealworm beetles and larvae showed a probit re!iponse to increasing dosages of carbaryl and dimethoate bl'on bait as evidenced by the sigmoidal shape of their mortality curves (i.e., increasing dosages of bran bait corresponded to increased responses). The mortality curves for yellow mealworms exposed to these same dosages of chlorpyrifos hait lacked the characteristic sigmoidal shape and were low-sloped. Fecding trials with chlorpyrifos buit at low enough dosages to produce a sigmoid rC!iponse were not conducted. It is postulated thai field populations of tenebrionids could be negatively affected by the use of chlorpyrifos bait to control grasshopper populations.

Effects of dietary replacement of fishmeal by yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) larvae meal on growth performance, hematological indices and some of non-specific immune responses of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

8-week feeding trial was conducted for juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) to determine the optimal amount of Tenebrio molitor meal (TM) that could replace fishmeal in feeds without reducing growth performance, hematological indices and non-specific immune responses. Five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated with TM replacing 0% (Control), 25% (TM25), 50% (TM50), 75% (TM...

Is there a relationship between insect metabolic rate and mortality of mealworms Tenebrio molitor L. after insecticide exposure? Czy istnieje zależność pomiędzy tempem metabolizmu a śmiertelnością mącznika młynarka Tenebrio molitor L. eksponowanego na insektycydy?

Pesticides are known to affect insects metabolic rate and CO2 release patterns. In the presented paper metabolic rate and mortality of mealworms Tenebrio molitor L. exposed to four different insecticides was evaluated, to find out whether there is a relationship between mealworms sensitivity to pesticides and their metabolic rate. Tenebrio molitor mortality was determined after intoxication wit...

Aflatoxin B1 Tolerance and Accumulation in Black Soldier Fly Larvae (Hermetia illucens) and Yellow Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor)

Crops contaminated with fungal mycotoxins such as aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) are often downgraded or removed from the food chain. This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance and accumulation of AFB1 in two insect species to determine whether they could be used to retain condemned mycotoxin contaminated crops in the food chain. First, instar black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens, BSF) and yellow m...

Influence of posttreatment temperature on the toxicity of insecticides against Diaphorina citri (Hemiptera: Psyllidae).

The psyllid Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) is one of the most important pests of citrus worldwide because it efficiently vectors three bacteria in the genus Candidatus Liberibacter that cause the devastating citrus greening disease (huanglongbing). Current management practices for this insect pest rely on multiple sprays of foliar insecticides and one or two applications of so...
